Well of course. In non-feminist times (in which many of us still live) many a crusty old lobster would make an exception for his own daughters.

But quite a few don't- especially where it counts most. I've known well a chap (a civil engineer) who was really difficult when it came to sending his daughter to university. No problems with his son. As it turned out, she did well, but there was the hell of a row that involved the whole extended family.
