Scotland and the rest of the UK are kept warm by the Gulf Steam and Atlantic conveyor. A possible worry would be if too much ice melts the Atlantic Conveyor would stop working for a while and Britain would revert to a Hudson's Bay type of winter.
This has happened before in the Middle Ages with the little ice age.

I agree with the equatorial sunset switch off at around 6pm. Having stayed in the Gulf, Kenya and Zimbabwe on occasions the transition between day and night is swift, probably more so in Kenya.

I am just remember during WW2, that double daylight saving was in force and as a very young person I can remember the evenings going on and on.
