We have a certain amount of experience with unwanted wildfires here in Australia; rather more than we care for, actually. The big problem is not how much grass, bracken or heather there is, but how dry it is. When the Lake District has a decade of drought and a week of over 35 degrees C, then they'll have a problem. I can't see this happening any time soon. We accept dry, yellow grass, stony river beds and dried-out once-were-lakes as normal. My partner has just returned for a holiday in New Zealand, and couldn't get over the amount of water everywhere; rushing down rivers and filling lakes, not to mention falling out of the sky.
David.
