Yes, I remember in Boy Scouts the "mnemonic" for Morse signaling with flags was the patrol badge on our right sleeve was a small round patch ("dot); the troop location strip on the left sleeve was about a 3-4" and narrow strip ("dash").

Apparently, however, neither that nor the short wave/long wave procedure are currently standard; the latest (1964, adopted 1965) International Code of Signals (Ch. 1, p. 19) says a dot is signalled by raising both flags over the head, a dash by extending both flags horizontally. The spacing between the two is indicated by bringing both flags to the chest and letters/words are indicated by extending both flags down at a 45 deg. angle.
