I think your alternative explanation for ownership of Beckfoot is likely
the correct one. I think it is probably owned by Jim Turner, given the
manner in which property was handed down at that time. Molly, as a young
widow, would naturally have been taken in by her own family. From the
description in P&M, it sounds like Uncle Jim has a fair amount of his
personal belongings (esp. laboratory equipment) in Beckfoot, and not merely
in storage either. I'm not so sure about Uncle Jim being disowned. Had
he been, I think the GA would have treated him a bit differently.
