When I started sailing fifty years ago, life jackets weren't available in the swindleries, much less being required. Forty years ago I was riding a trail motorcycle as part of my work in the outback of Western Australia. Helmet? What helmet? Now when riding my dromedary I wear both a helmet and a high-visiblity vest so that motorists who are talking on their mobile phones and not paying attention to the road might see me.
Oh, it's a different world, alright!
