Why did we ever decimalise?
Anybody who ever had to actually use Imperial units for more than casual shopping knows why we did... I used to have to make up batches of assorted steel, in a stockyard, and we had to price the batch. So much pickled rod at such and such a price, weights in tons, quarters, hundredweights and pounds, prices in pounds, shillings and pence. We had to use ready-reckoner tables, in books, to do the cost calculations. It was simply awful.
Seeing that 6/8d brings back waves of nausea.
