Some may recognize the immortal couplet

When first you shake the ketchup bottle
First none'll come and then a lot'll

But to tie it in to Ransome, sailing Swallow. I have just finished reading Chapter 1 of Swallows and Amazons to my younger children. Isn't it strange how the absent daddy has to give permission for the children to even step into the boat and then the very next day after hardly any practice they disappear off to camp on Wild Cat Island. You'd think that they would have been allowed to sail Swallow earlier and required daddy's permission to camp alone. But no they need his permission to do both.
What a waste of nearly two weeks on the lake.
