Going back to Cambridge in the mid-1950s, I recall the price of a loaf of bread went up from 4¼d (fourpence-farthing) to 4½d (fourpence-ha'penny). I don't remember when I last used a farthing in a shop, but halfpennies went on right up to the conversion to decimal in 1971.
