Wasn't that true of AR himself? Reading 'Racundra' and his musings there, he enjoyed solo passages with the crew asleep below, and that's echoed in WDMTGTS on the passage home, but his sailing seems always to have been fundamentally a social activity. As with Tom Dudgeon's solo exploit with the Hullabaloos, there's also Jim Brading's sail round to Pin Mill, but it's never lovingly described, unlike other grand sails as in, for example, PD.

But I'm probably not widely enough read; have I missed a canon of AR solo exploits?
