Rule number one in boat building - follow the plan.

I stepped the mast yesterday and then realized that I had set the back stays to low for a lug rig. So I have to add an extra 450 mm to the stays. We all make mistakes, it is just this one shows a distinct lack of local boating knowledge.

I also laced the sail to the gaff and tried to raise it, when I learnt of my mistake.

The mahogany mast comes up a glorious red colour when it is varnished with gloss spar varnish.

The inside was given a second coat and it looks better now the dark timber is all disappearing.

I need to order more paint.
