It makes perfect sense. I visited it several years ago (where 'several' is double figures) and what absolutely gobsmacked me was the sailmaker's shed (that's what I imagined it to be) above the hard, exactly as it was in AR's small illustration (WD, JC 1948, p.26). Plus, obviously, the Butt and Oyster, everything all present and correct, but it was the detail of the hut, the fact that it was instantly recognizable, that got to me.
There's nothing like confirmation of an incidental detail to make the story directly real.
