What would Arthur Ransome have done?
We can't know, but we can hazard an educated guess.
He wrote for the "Guardian", not the "Telegraph". He was the first writer I can think of to choose working class children as protagonists (in "The Big Six") and to give the lead, in "boyish" activities, to a girl.
I think he would have revised those three words.
And I am jolly sure that Peter is right. It does not really matter what we think; it matters that children read the books for fun.
