Ah ha! A while back I wondered out loud why the theme of sanctuary appeared so frequently in AR's works, and very subtly suggested there might be room for psychological investigation. Now here's this book "The Double LIfe of Arthur Ransome" reviewed by Richard Morrison and mentioned by Mike Dennis. Must read the article and see if I can get the book.
