I have also read the Chambers book. It's well worth reading, as the author has dug out events and anecdotes concerning AR in Russia which help to complete the complex jigsaw. But don't imagine you will find shatteringly new facts about AR - you will not. I'd agree with Dave that the book does make a case for AR being fixated and to a certain extent having tunnel vision (he explained away the Leninist 'Terror' purges). But the thing that impresses me is that Ransome on the whole liked the Russians, and spoke fluent Russian. They, in turn, liked and trusted him, at least the Bolsheviks did. To me, that says a great deal.
