Owen -

the odd thing is that Clifford Webb's drawings of Despatches and Making Ship's Papers, to my mind, bear little relation to the postcard of Friar's Crag! While the postcard shows the top of Friar's Crag as flat and clear of undergrowth, in the CW drawings it is decidedly rocky with undergrowth. AR's drawings are closer, but oddly the background of the hills in both doesn't look like the postcard of the hills at the south end of Derwentwater! His have rounded tops unlike the peaks in the postcard. Conversely, Clifford Webb's backdrops are closer to the postcard especially in Cormorant Island.

Nowadays, Friar's Crag is covered by undergrowth - and people, usually - so looks less like the postcard or either set of drawings. There are many such promontories on most lakes, many of which look more like the AR's Peak in Darien.
