A very poor bit of journalism on Newsnight. The usual approach of "startling new revelations" which AR had tried to conceal - very far from the facts. The 'bigamy' charge is just another example.
On the other hand, it's good that the Guardian has woken up this time. When Signalling from Mars came out, it was the only quality paper that failed to review it. Dennis Bird made a fuss at the 1997 TARS Literary Weekend, when a senior Guardian journalist (Martin Wainwright) was speaking, pointing out that AR had been one of the Manchester Guardian's most valued correspondents, and when Dennis asked the Literary Editor why they hadn't reviewed the book, she seemed unaware that AR was a significant Guardian figure. Martin promised to follow up, and it must have worked.
