I think it partly due to our "popular culture" of go-go-go - instant gratification and all that. No time to build a story - just jump in and start action-action-action - like a smash-em-up thriller movie - constant adrenalin. (I will most likely go see the new Harry Potter movie this weekend at the theatre across the street from me - if it is anything like the others, it will have lots of action and adrenelin!) This is what Mr. Ransome is not. He is subtle in the building of his plot, characters and the necessary details of the story. Unfortunately, most of our culture is built upon instant gratification and lots of adrenelin. Again, unfortunately, I am seeing a very tiny niche for our favorite author as I do not see any change in our culture occuring - just more of the same until we go up in a big puff of adrenelinized smoke - POOF!

Don't like to be negative, but just returned from a very non-productive art fair last weekend in a Colorado mountain town.

However, we need to celebrate and proselytize Mr. Ransome as much as possible, as, who knows, we may hit a jackpot!

My grandson did not go for Swallows and Amazons, either, when I gave him the book about four or five years ago (he just turned thirteen).
