Ah! A review that is even more purblind than it subject. Chambers has much of value to offer on Ransome's Russian period (though not that he 'betrayed his comrades to MI6" - his main aim was to get the British authorities to take them seriously) and indeed on his pre-Russian times in London, but his (Chambers's) conclusions on the books are seriously flawed, though even he, I feel, doesn't go so far as to suggest they are an 'attempt at rehabilitation'.
I used yesterday's Metro to keep my head dry during the downpour, and had to retrieve it from the recycling, soggy but legible, to check the review. On the whole they are more entertaining on restaurants - Marina O'Laughlin's reviews are a more than adequate substitute for shelling out inflated sums to actually eat at them.
