I have written a short essay on "Getting Started - Selecting a
Boat and Learning Boat Handling and Sailing" which can be seen
at the WWW address link here.
This is based on my own limited experience as a recreational
boater; it is not authoritative but may give you something
to think about. Especially for those inspired by the Ransome books.

Adventures. In my boat Swallowtail last week on Shadow Mountain
Lake in the Rockies -- elevation 8300 feet and not unlike the
Lake District -- we caught a nice 16 inch trout.
Ransome would have enjoyed the day.
