For me no film or TV version of The Railway Children is complete without Grieg's Symphonic Dance no. 2 as its theme music. There's a link to an audio clip of it at the bottom of the page linked below. Longer clips can be found elsewhere on the web.

This music was, I think, used in all the 1950s TV versions, maybe also the 1968 TV version.

The page linked below also points up the involvement of a Dorothea - Dorothea Brooking.
