I didn't like the naration either. Apart from some serious inaccuracies I didn't think it worked very well. I'm disappointed that those involved allowed it to be broadcast with some glaring inconsistancies.
The classic line though was "Ready about. Gybe oh", by John I believe. I didn't like the 'Jolly Hockey Sticks' characterisation of the Swallow's mother either.
In summary I was very dissapointed. The best part has to be production, if you get the chance listen to it in surround sound, you really get to feel that you are right there with them.
The series is being made available on cassette and should be available very shortly from you local bookshop. If you've missed the second part it will be repeated at 2100 hours this Saturday.
