In the September 2009 issue of Signals from TARSUS I reviewed a Ransome era children's book, Seek There by Eleanor Helme and Nance Paul (1933). This not only has an area map as end-papers but includes a detailed map of the immediate area of the action. Like Ransome's maps of the Broads, Helme and Paul's end-paper maps match the real world. They show the area around Braemar in Scotland in considerable detail. The action mostly takes place in the real locations marked on the map. There is even an authors' note specifying which places are invented. I suspect the authors were influenced by Ransome's early books.
