I have been re-reading Swallows and Amazons and I noticed that Nancy's language seems very tame compared to later books. I didn't notice a single J&B or a Barbecued Billygoat in the whole book.

She did call Peggy a goat and a galoot and she does use the term "Gaskets and Bowlines" when John tells her Captain Flint callled him a liar. I don't recall her using that phrase again in any of the other books.

During the storm she does say "Shiver my timbers" and there is a reference to it during the parley when she says that it is more fun being "sea-dogs and timber-shiverers".
