I have much practical sympathy for people being flooded. My other house is near the Thames and can flood regularly. We have had water up to 3 feet deep round the house. Fortunately not in the house but it made a dreadful mess in the garage.
For people whose homes do flood, there is a stinking muddy mess to clear up. The sewage system will overflow and its contents will mix with the floodwater.
However I do not complain as I reckon if you live near a river, flooding goes with the territory.
One temporary consolation - you have a temporary delusion of grandeur feeding swans from the back steps. Also you can moor your boat in the front porch and perhaps imagine living on a houseboat.
