Thank you! But the old thread doesn't say what would have happened to gold, although it does explain what happened to the copper. I guess I was just hoping that Dick was correct when he designed the blast furnace, that it would have worked with real gold.

I've been trying to find out about gold refining on the Net, etc, but so far haven't come across much about non-modern processes. Apparently its all done with chemicals and electricity now. I did read that gold, though common throughout the earth, is almost never concentrated into a real ore. In one mine, they only got one ounce of gold out of three tons of ore! Good thing the S.A.D. mining co. didn't have such a tough time extracting their own "gold" dust!
