This is based on my memories of English private school holidays in the 1960s which is different from the present and from the state schools in the 1960s and may also be a little different from the 1930s. All the dates are approximate and would vary according to when the weekends and Easter fell.
Part of the reason is that private schools usually had lessons on a Saturday morning but not necessarily every afternopon and there is a legal requirement for the number of hours tuition required by school regulations.
Michaelmas Term
September 21- December 14
Spring Term
January 10 - March 28*
Summmer Term
April 20* - July 10
*or so depending on when Easter occurred
In addition most schools had a long weekend half term holiday in the middle of the term.
