Jock's post about the history of water levels set me wondering: What are the long-term geological processes currently going on in the Lake District?

Presumably there's no mountain-building at present, so presumably the mountains are being eroded and the lakes are being filled by silt?

How long has the Lake District got left in recognisable form? Will human intervention maintain the lakes?
