The original illustration showing the D's and Amazons launching Scarab is with the others in the Brotherton Library, Leeds. It was clearly meant to be a "small" - in other words, a chapter end drawing. The relevant chapter in PM has no room at all for such an illustration. The original is 5 inches wide with the direction that it should be reduced to 3 inches in publication.
All the faces of the characters are visible except that of Dorothea, who is about to smash the quite substantial medicine bottle of ginger wine on Scarab's stem.
The illustration is in black ink on tracing paper (unlike the others on white card) and is with another unused "small" from PM, a very detailed drawing of the dead rabbit hanging on the wall of the Dog's Home.
Unfortunately there is no correspondence to show why the Scarab illustration remained on the dust wrapper.
