I think Lionel Hill (no relation, as far as I know) may be thinking of
a passage in The Picts and the Martyrs; the chapter name is probably
"Dealing with the Doctor". It's probably on the morning after the Ds'
first night at the Dogs' Home. The Amazons and Ds stop the doctor's
car. He remembers Dot from Winter Holiday (in at least one of these
two books, and probably both, he seems to be rather fond of her), but
he misremembers her name as Dorothy.

"Dick and Dorothy, isn't it?"
"Dorothea," said Dorothea.

-- or something very similar.
