What do you mean by "beginning notes"? Are you referring to material
other than that published in "Coots in the North & other stories" with
the introduction by Hugh Brogan? There may be more material at Abbot
Hall or the Brotherton Collection which were the sources for Coots in
the North for this publication but they are likely to be of limited
interest to most people and hence unlikely to be formally published.

Brogan suggests in the introduction just one tentative reason for Coots
in the North not being completed:

"The synopsis suggest that his powers of invention were failing
and could not be made good by the sustained application which had
carried him through so often before"
