Beckfoot was really Lanehead, the home of WR Collingwood. Collingwood was the author of Thorstein of the Mere, AR's favourite book as a boy. WRC met and "adopted" AR when he (AR) was about twenty. Lanehead was on the opposite side of Coniston Water to Coniston village, but this ignorant Aussie doesn't know whether this puts it on the eastern side of the lake or not.
AR poften holidayed with the Collingwoods. He and two of the Collingwood girls sailed on Coniston in the original Swallow ("the first in a long dynasty of Swallows in my sailing life") which was a former fishing boat kept in the Lanehead boathouse.
One of the two, Dora, later became an Altounyan, while the other, Barbara, became a Gnosspelius (see AR's book dedications.)
Whether Lanehead was ever known as Beck Leven Foot I have no knowledge.
