Yes, my father had the Flash Bantam (possibly very similar to yours, but with a PC connector) he used starting in the '40s or '50s at some point, almost exclusively with Kodachrome - still has it, but alas, no film available short of "roll-your-own", and starting to get light leaks. My first real camera was another Bantam, the RF model, so not as compact as the Bantam folders. It's down in the basement where I could find it in a few minutes should the need ever arise.

I suspect that for individuals film choice was the difference between whether they wanted to pull out an album to hand around or set up the production of a slide show, with all that entailed, and colour print film tended (when you included processing) to be much more expensive than slide film or, for that matter, B&W. Not too many people thought about the longevity issue you're seeing with your Kodacolor prints. I know that when I was getting 828, slide film was much easier to come by than either B&W or colour print.
