Well said, Alan. The constant mis-spelling of 'Owdon' as 'Owden' runs right through TARS publications since the Society was founded. It even occurs in Christina Hardyment's book, which helped to start the whole thing off. I have checked through my own copies of CC and BS and can find no example of Owden - it is always Owdon. I have checked through later and earlier editions - same result. It is a complete mystery.
As a supporter of poor old George, I find this extremely irritating. No one would dream of spelling Nancy's surname as, eg, 'Blackitt'. We are the Arthur Ransome Society and should at least, failing all else, know how to spell his characters' names. So please, everyone, it is 'Owdon', and will the proof-readers of Mixed Moss and Dispatches please take note - I sense that is where the culprit (or one of them) is.
