OK........ here is how it was. AR's Grandfather, Thomas, was married twice.
AR's father, Cyril, was the first child of the first marriage.
Dick Ransome's father, Oswald, was the last child of the second marriage.
So AR and Dick Ransome had the same grandfather and so were distant cousins.
Dick Ransome is something of a local colourful personality. A skilled engineer and steam enthusiast he is well known in Coniston and worked at one time on the steam launch Gondola on Coniston water.
