Yes, and many of the people and day-to-day incidents in that book were remembered by AR from his stay in pre-revolutionary China in 1927. For a vivid account of these, TARS members should read "Ransome in China, 1927" by David Jones (an Amazon publication - ie the TARS Amazon, not the multi-national Amazon). For instance, AR met an executioner - 'chlopping heads' was quite real then, although mercifully on the way out.
