Thanks to Robert Thompson’s site we are reminded that the title published in 1933 was “Der Kampf um die Insel”. or “The Battle for the Island”
Seem to remember that there was another book in Germany with Kampf in the title that was politically popular at the time.
Perhaps the S&A title was changed to make it more acceptable? Although the title remained the same for the 1966 version. Even if your German is a bit rusty, this is worth purchasing for the fascinating drawings by the well regarded Margery Gill (who died in 2008) and a weird diagrammatic endpaper map.
