I thought that the Fleming Wood photo looked perfect, and yes, from the landward side there is certainly a more 'Picts' feeling than with some contenders. I am not convinced that Beckfoot 'needs' to be near a river, knowing AR's delight in blending detail, but I wish there were some known connection.
Having explored Coniston from Peel I to Allan Tarn by water, I maintain that there is no need to look further for a mouth of the Amazon. For me, Pull Wyke is utterly unconvincing by comparison. Though it was apparently a good place to fish.
