Very much the Gondola, Roger.
One of the features that makes AR writing so powerful is it gives a good sense of place whether actual or compounded.
The cabin of the Gondola, although very heavily restored, gives a sense of place that Esperance fails, to me, to deliver.
AR wrote more about the interior of the houseboat, than the exterior (which certainly owes much more to Esperance).
AR was more familiar with the Gondola than the Esperance (I think he only saw the interior once) from his experiences in his younger years.
To be fair, Gondola is a working boat whereas Esperance is a dead museum boat at present and this may contribute to any feeling of atmosphere.
