These pictures, and those of perhaps some other steamer in real life, seem to have less freeboard that what I had pictured for "the Houseboat". Judging by the drawing of CF walking the plank, in which the height of the deck from the water is greater than the height of the people standing on the deck, and by their need to access the rope ladder to get to the deck, and the width inside to contain benches on both sides wide enough to bed down and sleep on them, not just sit, all seem to imply the houseboat being a much larger vessel - at least, in my mental image that is.
