I just noticed this thread and would like to point out my previous exploration of the connections between the Houseboat, Gondola, and Esperance. Below is a link to the archives of "Signals From Tarsus", on the "All Things Ransome" pages. Those of you not living in North America or not exploring ATR, may have missed the article I wrote that appeared as an addendum to the SfT September 2009 edition. I am horribly overdue to finish writing the definitive version referred to in the final notes. It is my hope that this current discussion will get me back to work on my longer article for "All Things Ransome". I am simplifying my life a bit and should have more time this summer to finally do it justice.

I did not use the marked up postcard in this article because I was being careful of copyright, and had not been able to get permission to use it by the time of publication. You can view it in the books mentioned in the article, or see the picture earlier in this thread. As you will see from the end credits, I was able to use AR illustrations with the permission of the Literary Executors.

I do refer to the bows of the 3 ships and the fo'c'sle space, but was incorrect in thinking that the fo'c'sle was only under the foredeck. Later email discussions with Roger Wardale and Geraint Lewis solved the layout problem, and I also have a later theory about how the layout of the houseboat cabin relates to the two real boats.

The article opens in pdf format and is huge by default. Placing your cursor near the bottom of the page on your monitor will open a set of controls. Just click on the minus sign to make the page smaller.

S&A Forever!

Claire
