Could I suggest that before calling for copies of 'The Elizir' to be made available by whatever means, people read Brogan p. 100 in which he uses the expression 'such complete tosh'. Having read the book in its entirety, I completely concur with his remarks.
When we (Amazon Publications) decided to publish a flavour of AR's early work, our aim was to use selected quotations to provide a balanced overview of AR's output, we felt it was necessary to include the end of 'The Elizir' for the sake of completeness.
The situation is exactly the opposite to Coots in the North, when those of us who had read the draft encouraged Cape to publish. However, I would not like to see 'The Elizir' republished for it is apprentice work. I believe the interest would be microscopic (a view supported by the reception of 'Before a Peak in Darien') and publication would do nothing for AR's reputation.
