If I can add my two cents worth to the posts about Enid Blyton's works - I once asked my local library if they had any of her books. The librarian seemed embarrassed when she answered no. I asked her why, and after some mumbling and hesitation she admitted they didn't stock them because of the racial epithets they contained. Not having read the books myself, I suppose she meant the slang names for Chinese and Black characters. I have often wondered is there another route? Maybe just drop the racial names. Or, leave them in and simply tell the readers these were old names for the Chinese, Blacks or whatever and no one uses them these days. I think that's in the same class as calling Titty Kitty. How far do you go in updating a book?
