Because, not knowing history, young television producers aren't aware things were done differently in their parents' lifetimes.
I have a thermometer inherited from my grandfather with two scales: Fahrenheit and Réaumur. None of of this new-fangled Centigrade stuff. Most people I show it to have never heard of R, but we learnt it at school.
