My father was one such, spending quite a bit time with his aunt as my grandfather was in the Indian Army. He certainly never liked her at all in later life.
She was married but had no children of her own and I don`t think she ever understood how to deal with a young boy.
I spent some of my school holidays in the early 1960s before air travel got easier, with my grandparents who had some experience of children ;-)
