The 1941 rations were better than the immediate post-war rations when we had no money for imports.

However eating out, if you could afford it, was exempt from rationing. Also you could buy un-rationed fish & chips (cooked properly in beef dripping) every day.

There was always whale meat available; I do not think that was rationed - but not one of the world's great taste sensations.

Also if you owned hens, as many did in wartime, there was a plentiful supply of eggs.

Agree about the lack of cheese and also butter. Wartime margarine was often whale based.
