I didn't discover the books until adulthood, on a trip to Dublin. (Like many Americans, I was raised on Nancy Drew and the Bobbsey Twins). I actually started with Big Six and Winter Holiday. I think that Coot Club was one of my last finds, but Ransome has enough continuity to allow you to start pretty much anywhere.
