for various reasons including the possibility of a long stay in the Tower of London and certainly offence taken.

I am reminded of a rhyme that bold seven-year-olds used to chant in the school playground:
What's the time? Half-past nine.
Hang your knickers on the line.
What's the time? Half-past ten.
Time to pull them down again!

Oh dear! Time to return to more Ransomish thoughts. My final contribution to this is to point out that the female underwear now called knickers in the UK are called undies by AR - see Secret Water when Titty helps Bridget after the Red Sea rescue:
"Off with your things. Undies too."
Hope this satisfies the "inquiring mind".
