I think that you're right, but I never saw GN as being a meta-story; just as AR going a story too far. For me it never had the juiciness and the energy of what I think of as the mainstream stories. It always felt to me as being rather flat. In fact, on first reading I found it rather dull. I know that others think differently; so let's celebrate diversity...
