I see there are several books written from an animal's point of view, where the subject is human behaviour. But what I was most interested in was that AR wrote 12 books 99.9% about the actions of humans, with just these two short paragraphs from the point of view of the animal. It seems to be rarely done elsewhere though. I kinda like it. I imagine AR had as much fun pondering what William might be thinking, as he did when considering fairies and imps.

Thanks for telling me how Tolkein uses the same 'trick'. (This then reminds me of the exchange of letters where AR pointed out 2 or 3 errors in The Hobbit. I don't think anyone knows if Tolkein had any idea he was coversing with another famous author, or just a member of the public!)
